Reading Is The Key

Literacy Programs

Children learn to love the sound of language before they even notice the existence of printed words on a page. Reading books aloud to children stimulates imagination and expands their understanding of the world.

Volunteers distribute books  Books-In-A-Bag Program...Community-Wide Book Distribution - Books delivered to the home of every newborn to seven year old in HUD public housing community served.

 Parent & Child Reading Incentive Project
Teaching the habit of reading to preschool child and building literacy skills for academic success. Earn incentive gifts and community service hours.

Teaching the alphabet

 Free Book Any Day
Come to Read Seed office for a free gently used book each week, preschool to high school ...... anyone ....... anyday 10 am to 4:30 pm. Groups should call for day or evenings visit appointment.

Children pick out books

 Storytime Thursday
Welcome small groups for StoryTime and get a gently used book. Call to reserve date and time.

Teaching the alphabet

 Community Outreach Program
Partnering with community agencies and child care providers to bring more books to children. Applications for 2007 participation accepted in January. Call Read Seed office to learn more.

 Community Outreach Bookshelf
Partnering with Agencies to place gently used books in waiting area for children to take home and enjoy.

 Reading & Reference Libraries
Read-In library with hundreds of books for all ages. Reference Library for homework support.

 Time To Read And Learn - Family Night Out
Communities that read together teach children that reading is important. By partnering with companies who care, Read Seed celebrated September Literacy Month by bringing public housing residents out to enjoy food, fellowship, free books and gifts, storytime and information sharing about their role in building young readers.

 Bringing Books Alive
More Read-A-Thon fun throughout the year. Join us in celebration of books and reading, costume characters, theatrical presentations of favorite books, free books and gifts and books you can buy.
